Listen to Catcher in the Rye Playlist

Standalone player

a picture like this would be my album cover to represent the women important to the story (Jane, Sally, Faith, Sunny, Phoebe, and posible the pretty woman from the lavender room)

One song for each chapter. Here are the explanations for why I chose each song.
1) I picked the song because I think it would be the type of music that Holden would listen to. It is also the start of his adventure which is what the song is about.
2) The song is good for this chapter because Holden goes to see Mr. Spencer, who is his English teacher at Pencey, and he is trying to teach Holden a lesson about life during his visit, but Holden doesn't really understand truly what Mr. Spencer is trying to say.
3) I think the song explains very well Holden's feelings and attitude toward Ackley in this chapter. This is another song I think that Holden would listen too.
4) Holden is wondering in this chapter if Jane remembers him, which goes with the song’s lyrics.
5) I chose this song because Holden writes about his younger brother's baseball glove, which he would write in. Allie died a few years before the story takes place. The song is about a freedom writer brother who died.
6) In this chapter Holden gets into a fight with Stradlater about the composition Holden wrote for him and about his date with Jane, which is why I chose the song, which about a boy who is jealous and protective of "his girl."
7) I chose the song because its about choosing your own path, which is what Holden does when he leave Pencey Prep.
8) This is the chapter where Holden is traveling to New York on the train. This song is about New York and I think it would be a good song for this part if they make a movie.
9) Holden makes it to his Hotel and sees all of the weird people that are staying there. The song is parallel to this chapter because it is about a hotel where all the guests are prisoners of there own device.
10) This song is about a stupid girl which is what Holden thinks the three older women are.
11) Holden is thinking about his past with Jane and about how he thinks she is beautiful which is why I think the song matches the chapter.
12) Holden runs into his brothers ex-girlfriend, whom he does not like, which is why I picked this song.
13) Maurice Hires a prostitute named Sunny for Holden, but Holden can't goes through with it and sends her away. Since the song is about a man trying to dissuade a girl from being a prostitute i think that it goes alone with the song.
14) I picked this song because holden gets into another fight and even though Maurice has him pinned against a wall he still curses him out. The song also says "I'm just a notch in your bedpost" which, because Sunny is a prostitute is true.
15) Holden is thinking about his father and mother, who became sick after his younger brothers death. The song talks about running away from family which is what Holden is trying to do.
16) Holden goes for a walk and is cheered up when he hears a young boy singing.
17) Holden falls in love with Sally for purely physical reasons, he even admits to being annoyed by some of the things that she does, and goes a little crazy after they go skating.
18) Holden goes to see the rockette's Christmas show but finds it boring and begins to think of other things. When he thinks of what D.B. has told him about the army he decide that he wouldn't ever join the army
19) Holden seems to think about sex almost every chapter, and pressures Carl Luce to talk to him about it.
20) Holden gets drunk after Carl leaves and does some stupid things like calling Sally and hitting on two women in the bar, then goes outside with wet hair which starts to freeze.
21) Holden goes to see his sister, and looks through her books and notes while she is asleep. I chose this version rather than the original because it is a tender moment between Holden and Phoebe which is better expressed with the speed of this version.
22) Holden Thinks of James Castle, a boy that he knew a one of the schools he used to attend, who committed suicide after other boys picked on him.
23) Holden finally gets Phoebe to listen to him and he dances with her for a while. This is another tender moment shared between them.
24) Holden's old teacher, Mr. Antoloni, invites Holden to stay the night at his house. While there Mr. Antoloni repeatedly expresses his fear of Holden heading toward a "terrible fall."
25) After Holden leaves Mr. Antoloni's house he decides that he will run away to the West. When he meets with Phoebe at the museum to return her money, she insists that he take her with her.
26) This song was written about the book and I think it would make a good ending for the book or movie.
